This week’s post has a very special guest feature: Laura! I met Laura three years ago when she was assigned to my team on her gastroenterology rotation. We’ve been inseparable since. Laura has been my companion on some of the saddest days last year; she has also been my confidant, my texting bestie, and now, I’m excited to add “adventure buddy” to the list. See what adventures we enjoyed when we met up in Madrid.
I’ll start by noting that despite a 7 hour red eye flight, Laura, in line with her hard working character, was ready to explore as soon as I met her. (I, on the contrary, had taken a comfortable three hour train from Seville that morning and could have easily taken a nap.)

The highlight of our time in Madrid was a visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid. Still the official residence of the royal family of Spain, this palace was constructed beginning in 1735 (yes before the United States was born). Spectacular rooms in opulent decor is an understatement. As pictures are not allowed inside, I highly recommend to search images online, or better yet, visit it in person!

We also had a delightful tour of the city with a Tuk Tuk tour company and captured the beautiful pictures below. Madrid is a wonderful blend of the old and new; historical buildings smile wistfully onto bustling tourists below.

While short, the trip to Madrid was a wonderful weekend getaway. We left desiring more – the best way to leave a city.
Follow along as I finish my last week in Seville. Where will I head to next? Find out on my next post!
